Pokemon Information

Information and game rules on Pokemon catching and training.

What's Little Cup?

Little Cup is a tier of the Pokemon battling community. The Pokemon limited to this tier are generally the first form of a species of a Pokemon capable of evolving. Note that the listed Pokemon under the linked page does not currently include gen VII Pokemon.

Can we have Pokemon that aren't in LC?

Yes, but not at the beginning. As the game progresses, all Pokemon (besides legendaries/mythicals) will become obtainable.

Can we catch Legendary Pokemon?

Everyone will be able to catch one legendary Pokemon as a part of the game. This Pokemon is picked from the following list when you apply with your character. When choosing a legendary Pokemon, think about what would draw them to your character. Any particularly egregious abilities of legendary Pokemon appearing in the game (e.g. Celebi's time travel, Jirachi's wish granting) will be constrained.

Hey! Where's X? I really want them for a legendary.

The legendaries not listed here are not allowed, for reason of being too powerful or not making sense to be in the setting. Some not shown here may be caught during the ending portion of the game.

Can someone else use the same Pokemon as me?

Yes and no. When you apply for the game, you may reserve Pokemon you'd like your character to use. Some of these unique reserves, meaning they're Pokemon you'd like to be exclusive to your character. These unique Pokemon can't be used by anyone else without your permission. In addition, you may reserve up to 6 Pokemon to indicate that you'd like to use them, but that others can negotiate their use with you. The following reserves are unique by default:
  • Starter Pokemon
  • Field Pokemon
  • Lake Pokemon
  • Mountain Pokemon
  • Legendary Pokemon
  • (optional) Second Starter Pokemon

You may request unique Pokemon beyond the above but they're subject to approval. If you'd like a Pokemon you see someone else has already reserved, please try to work it out with them. Likewise, please be considerate about what Pokemon you're reserving.

Why can you reserve Pokemon?

We think a trainer's team should say something about them. Whether it just say they like big honking T-Rexes like Tyranitar, or they're creepy enough to like Hypnos, or they've developed a strange emotional bond with Foongus, a character's Pokemon team should be unique as they are. We know when you're just starting out it's tempting to just throw your favorites on a team together, and we hope the reserve system ensures people can make their teams distinct and thoughtful.

What about Pokemon with different final evolutions?

Pokemon with branching evolutions should be reserved with their final evolution in mind, as only the final evolution will be counted as "unique." For example, this means that Eevee can be uniquely reserved up to 7 times, once for each of its final evolutions.

How will we battle?

Battles will be done on Pokemon Showdown.

How will we find and catch Pokemon?

Characters will begin with 1 to 2 (to even 3 in exceptional circumstances) Pokemon. They will catch their first subsequent Pokemon through in-game field trip events. Every few weeks, the pool of available pokemon to catch will be updated, and members will post in a status thread (AKA journal update) to let the mod team know their intentions.

How do Pokemon level up?

Pokemon will enjoy a steady, passive level gain as time progresses, so long as each member battles the greedy admin once every two weeks with their pokemon team on Showdown.

Are we tracking other Pokemon stats like affection, contest values, etc?

Nope. If you'd like to, go ahead, but that won't affect anything plot related.

This could change if need be, however.
